Alice Cooper’s Original Band Reunites After 50 Years!

Published on 24 April 2025 at 09:49

The shock rock legend and his iconic 70s band release “The Revenge of Alice Cooper” – a comeback that has 1975-era fans cheering in delight.

The cover of "The Revenge of Alice Cooper" looks like a classic horror film poster. Alice Cooper appears on the left, flanked by founding members Michael Bruce, Dennis Dunaway, and Neal Smith. The late guitarist Glen Buxton is honored with an illustrated appearance on the right. Bob Ezrin is credited as "Director," a nod to his role as producer and to the band's theatrical flair. The tagline – “The Return Album The World Was Afraid Of” – perfectly sets the tone for this long-awaited comeback.

I remember it like it was yesterday: the year was 1975, and I stood among the crowd, mesmerized by the haunting spectacle of the Alice Cooper Group. As a teenager, witnessing Alice Cooper and his original band scare and electrify the audience with guillotines and screaming guitars was unlike anything else. I never imagined that nearly fifty years later, I would experience a brand-new album from that same classic lineup. But here we are – Alice Cooper has reunited with his original band, and one of rock history’s most theatrical groups is writing a brand-new chapter. That same teenage thrill I felt is back, stronger than ever.

The Reunion and the New Album

In April 2025, the long-held hope of many fans became reality: Alice Cooper reunited with original bandmates – guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway, and drummer Neal Smith – to record a brand-new album. It’s the first time in over half a century that this lineup has come together for a full-length studio release. Titled “The Revenge of Alice Cooper”, the album will be released on July 25th via earMUSIC.

Though original guitarist Glen Buxton passed away in 1997, he makes a special posthumous appearance on the album. Two tracks feature archived recordings of his guitar work, blending the past with the present. It’s a heartfelt tribute and a powerful way to include Buxton’s signature sound in the band’s return.

The reunion isn’t just a nostalgia trip – the band wrote 14 brand-new tracks together. One of them, “What Happened To You”, is based on an old demo by Dennis Dunaway and Glen Buxton, brought to life decades later. The album also includes a bonus track: “Return of the Spiders 2025”, a reimagined version of the band’s 1970 classic. It’s a nod to their roots – a blast from the past with a 21st-century bite.

Bob Ezrin in the Producer’s Chair Again

The legendary Bob Ezrin, producer of many of Alice Cooper’s most iconic 70s albums (School’s Out, Billion Dollar Babies, Welcome to My Nightmare), has returned to helm “The Revenge of Alice Cooper”. His deep knowledge of the band’s sound ensures the new material feels authentic to their roots, but with a fresh energy. Ezrin has said he wanted the album to feel like a natural extension of their early work – and early reports suggest he’s succeeded.

With Ezrin at the controls, the record captures the theatricality, the raw power, and the tongue-in-cheek horror that made Alice Cooper famous. It’s a vintage-meets-vitality sound that proves the band can still thrill decades later.

The First Single: “Black Mamba”

To give fans a taste of what’s to come, the band released their first single, “Black Mamba”, premiered on Alice’s own radio show “Alice’s Attic”. The track features a surprise guest: Robby Krieger of The Doors, who brings his unmistakable psychedelic blues guitar to the mix. The result is a hypnotic, venomous groove that pays tribute to Cooper’s serpentine stage persona and blends perfectly with the song’s eerie atmosphere.

“Black Mamba” sounds like it could’ve been cut in 1971, but its production is sharp and modern. It’s a thrilling first taste of what promises to be an unforgettable album.

Nostalgia, Excitement, and Future Energy

Among fans, the reaction has been explosive. Social media is ablaze with cheers from those of us who saw the original band live in the 70s – and from younger fans who’ve discovered their magic since. This album isn’t just a release – it’s a full-circle moment, one that bridges past and present with energy and heart.

Alice Cooper has hinted at possible live shows with the reunited band, perhaps in select cities like Detroit, L.A., or London. Whether or not a full tour happens, the mere idea of seeing these legends on stage together again is electrifying.

For those of us who’ve followed the band for decades, “The Revenge of Alice Cooper” is more than just music – it’s a resurrection. It honors their legacy, proves their chemistry never died, and delivers a shock-rock punch that’s just as potent as it was in 1975. I can’t wait to hear it, to crank it loud, and to let the teenage fan in me scream once more: ALICE IS BACK.
