There comes a moment in life when you stop defining yourself by what others expect—and instead start shaping your identity based on what you know, what you can do, and what you truly want. I’ve reached that moment. I’m 63 years old, and right now I’m reinventing myself—again. Welcome to Me 3.0.
Being a polymath—a jack-of-all-trades, generalist, experience alchemist—was never a choice for me. It’s simply my natural state. Life has offered me opportunities, challenges, and at times, brutal setbacks. I’ve said yes when others said no. I’ve climbed mountains, both literally and metaphorically. I’ve lived on a boat, in a tiny house, in creative chaos. And now, I’m facing the most exciting phase yet: taking all those pieces and assembling them into a new version of myself—one that no longer adapts but instead creates.
From 1.0 to 3.0
Me 1.0 was curious. The young guy who began working in the graphic industry, who built his first website in the '90s, who traveled without a map but with courage. A young man with no formal education but who knew there were other ways to learn—by doing, by trying, by living.
Me 2.0 was the professional. The project manager, the production leader, the problem solver. The one who could take charge in chaos and see solutions where others saw obstacles. I worked in film, TV, radio, events, construction, logistics—a universe of experience only a polymath could hold together without burning out. This was the version of me who lived for others, often in service of their goals, all the while quietly building a library of skills and perspectives.
But Me 2.0 also lost his way. I became depressed, took medication that numbed me, lost myself for a while. That’s when I moved aboard my sailboat—not for adventure, but as a necessary retreat to find my way back home within myself.
And there, something new was born. An insight. A direction. A calm. That was the beginning of Me 3.0.
What is Me 3.0?
Me 3.0 isn’t a job title, a role, or a LinkedIn headline. It’s an identity built from everything I’ve been—but no longer bound by it. It’s a self-designed composition where I take experiences from different chapters and shape something entirely new:
-
From production work, I bring leadership, overview, and decision-making under pressure.
-
From life at sea, I bring simplicity, minimalism, and the ability to live with less and create more.
-
From my writing, I bring storytelling and the ability to put words to what others only feel.
-
From love, I bring presence, humility, and the desire to give rather than chase.
-
From mountain climbing, I bring courage, breath, and the knowledge that every summit requires step by step.
Me 3.0 is my own design. It’s free from résumés, job titles, and social media personas. It’s built on what I know I can do—and on what I haven’t yet discovered I’m capable of.
It’s Never Too Late – It’s Exactly the Right Time
We live in a time that glorifies youth and often discards experience. But that’s a huge waste of resources. Because it is now—after doing, falling, getting back up, building, and tearing down—that I truly have something valuable to offer.
I’m not afraid of AI—I use it as a tool.
I’m not afraid of change—I’m built for it.
I’m not afraid of starting over—I’ve done it before, I’ll do it again.
Me 3.0 is also a call to action for others my age: Stop asking for permission. You already carry the answers. Now it’s time to use them. To write, create, speak, build, travel, teach others—or relearn yourself. Now is when we are free to become who we truly are.
The Polymath’s Role in the Future
In a world that rewards specialists, it’s easy to underestimate the value of the generalist. But in complex times, it’s precisely those who can see the big picture, build bridges between disciplines, and think across boundaries that are most needed.
Me 3.0 is not just my personal journey—it’s also a model. A path forward for others who’ve played many roles but haven’t yet dared to unite them into one powerful whole.
We, who’ve worked across different industries, carry a cross-section of society. We hold solutions no one asks for. We are the collective memory, the creative force, the silent wisdom. And once we step forward, we become powerful agents of change.
This Is a Manifesto
Me 3.0 is more than an upgrade—it’s a revolution in how we view age, experience, and identity. It’s a reminder that those who’ve lived full lives carry riches the world desperately needs.
So to you who feel that something new is about to be born—trust it. Lift your gaze. Assemble your pieces. You are not done—you are just becoming your greatest version yet.
I am Christer Berggren.
Polymath.
Me 3.0.
And I’ve only just begun.
