KISS is Back (Again) – And Dee Snider Isn’t Having It!

Published on 27 March 2025 at 13:37

In December 2023, legendary rock band KISS concluded their “End Of The Road” farewell tour with a final concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Less than two years later, the band announced their return to the stage with an unannounced performance during the "KISS Army Storms Vegas" event, set for November 14–16, 2025, at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

This news has sparked strong reactions within the rock community, especially from Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, who has openly criticized KISS for deciding to return so soon after their supposed farewell.

KISS Returns to the Stage

According to an email sent to fans via KissOnline.com, “KISS Army Storms Vegas” will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the KISS Army and the 30th anniversary of the first KISS fan convention. The event is described as an “all things KISS” paradise and marks the first time the band will perform together since ending their tour in December 2023.

In addition to a performance by KISS, a special concert featuring former KISS member Bruce Kulick and other guest artists is planned. Fans can purchase Vibee Experience Packages from Live Nation, which include a three-night stay at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, a photo with the band without makeup, access to the live performance, Q&A sessions, panel discussions, and other exclusive experiences.

Dee Snider’s Criticism

Dee Snider has not held back his opinion about KISS’s comeback. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he expressed his frustration with the band’s decision to reunite so soon after their farewell:

“So I was told today that a KISS reunion in Vegas has been announced. 14 months since their last farewell. That may be a new record for them. I can’t believe people still put up with their s***. It’s offensive to me.”

Snider’s criticism highlights a sense of disappointment and irritation over what he sees as a betrayal of fans who said goodbye to the band during their farewell tour.

A History of Farewell Tours in Rock

KISS is not the only band to announce farewell tours only to later return to the stage. The phenomenon is common in the rock world, with several artists conducting farewell tours only to reunite later. This has led to debates over whether such farewells are genuine or merely marketing strategies to boost ticket sales.

Fan Reactions

Reactions from fans have been mixed. Some are thrilled at the opportunity to see their idols perform again, while others feel betrayed and question the band’s credibility. Discussions on social media and forums reflect this division—some defend the band’s right to return, while others echo Snider’s criticism.

Farewell Tours as Marketing Strategy

Using farewell tours as a way to attract audiences and increase revenue has become a debated tactic in the music industry. When bands return shortly after such tours, it can lead to cynicism among fans and questions about the artists’ honesty. It raises questions about the balance between commercial interests and respect for fans’ trust.

KISS’s Previous Statements on Retirement

In a 2023 interview with Rolling Stone, Gene Simmons stressed that the final performance on the “End Of The Road” tour would truly be their last show. He swore on the Bible and explained that the decision to retire had nothing to do with ticket sales, but rather the physical demands of their energetic performances. Simmons mentioned the heavy costumes and physical toll as key factors behind their decision to stop touring.

Reputational Risks for KISS

KISS’s decision to return so soon after their farewell tour may affect their reputation. For some fans, this could be seen as a sign that the band does not keep its promises, reducing trust in future announcements. On the other hand, their comeback could also be seen as proof of their love for music and their desire to keep entertaining their fans.

A Changing Music Industry

The music industry has changed dramatically over the past decades, with new revenue streams and shifting consumption habits. For many artists, live performances have become one of the most important sources of income. This may help explain why some bands choose to return to the stage despite previous farewells.

Dee Snider’s Relationship with KISS

Dee Snider has a long history in the rock world and has previously expressed both admiration and criticism toward various bands, including KISS. His recent comments reflect a frustration over what he sees as dishonesty toward fans and a lack of respect for their loyalty.

The Future for KISS and Their Fans

Time will tell how KISS’s return will affect their legacy. Will fans embrace them once again, or will the disappointment over their "not-so-final" farewell linger? What’s clear is that the emotional bond between artist and audience is strong—and when tested, it can evoke powerful reactions. In the end, every band must decide for themselves whether their return is worth the potential backlash.
