Sweden has a long and proud tradition in motorsports, with Swedish drivers excelling on both national and international stages. Despite these impressive achievements, many of these successes receive little attention in Swedish media. A recent example is the participation of Swedish teams in Sick Week 2025, a prestigious drag racing event in the USA.
Sick Week 2025: An Overview
Sick Week is an annual drag racing event held in Florida, USA. The competition spans multiple days and includes races at different tracks, where participants are not only tested on speed but also on endurance, as they must drive their cars between tracks on public roads. This places high demands on both the performance of the vehicles and the skills of the drivers. Sick Week 2025 took place from January 27 to February 1 and attracted 350 of America’s fastest street cars. (sickthemagazine.com)
Swedish Participation in Sick Week 2025
Among the international participants were Swedish teams that delivered outstanding performances. One such team is Brillko Engineering AB, which entered the competition with their “Bittersweet Camaro”. This car is the result of meticulous engineering and a deep passion for drag racing. During Sick Week 2025, the team showcased the car’s capabilities by achieving impressive times on the track.
Challenges and Achievements
Competing in an event like Sick Week comes with numerous challenges. Aside from the obvious technical demands on the vehicles, the teams must also handle logistical and physical strains. Driving long distances between race tracks, often under time pressure, requires careful planning and endurance. Despite these challenges, the Swedish teams not only completed the event but also performed at a high level, demonstrating their professionalism and dedication.
Limited Media Coverage in Sweden
Despite Swedish teams’ success in international events like Sick Week 2025, it is remarkable how little attention these achievements receive in Swedish media. While major sports events like football and ice hockey dominate the news, motorsports—especially niche disciplines like drag racing—often remain in the shadows. As a result, many Swedes are unaware of the significant accomplishments that Swedish drivers and teams achieve on the international stage.
The Importance of International Success
Swedish drivers have consistently established themselves as leaders in various motorsport disciplines. One example is Ida Zetterström, who, with a Swedish racing license, became the European Champion in Top Fuel and is now preparing to compete in the U.S. in 2024. (bilsport.se)
These achievements not only put Sweden on the motorsport map but also inspire the next generation of drivers and enthusiasts.
The Need for Increased Media Attention
To support the growth of motorsports in Sweden, it is crucial that the media highlights these international successes. By showcasing the performances of Swedish drivers, public interest can increase, leading to more sponsors and better talent development. Additionally, this could contribute to a more diverse sports coverage, where different racing disciplines receive the recognition they deserve.
The Future of Swedish Drag Racing
With teams like Brillko Engineering AB and drivers like Ida Zetterström, the future of Swedish drag racing looks promising. Their dedication and success in international events like Sick Week 2025 demonstrate that Sweden has both the talent and expertise to compete at the highest level.
With more support from media, sponsors, and the public, Swedish drag racing can continue to grow and reach even greater heights.
Conclusion
Swedish drivers and teams have repeatedly proven that they belong to the world elite in motorsports. Despite this, their achievements often receive little attention in Swedish media. By highlighting and celebrating these successes, we can not only give them the recognition they deserve but also inspire future generations and strengthen motorsport’s position in Sweden.

It's TIME! Sick Week 2025 is officially upon us! Today presented a lot of different challenges for people, including a delay in the event getting kicked off and everyone being limited to one pass! Thankfully the 55 behaved and landed us in First of Ultimate Iron and third overall! There's A LOT of fast cars here, so we will see what day 2 holds! If you want to come see the 55 in person and hopefully set some more new personal bests, use the link below or code: ATRACING for 10% Sick Week tickets! http://www.sickmachining.com/atracing
Sick Week at Bradenton Motorsports Park was wild! Track conditions were much better and we saw some FAST passes. We saw some unique cars and some unique incidents as well. A Tesla with a big block and a windshield implosion at over 200mph! Over 50 racers had dropped out by the time we got to the track and the rankings are getting shaken up! After all that, the racers had about a 200 mile drive to Orlando. We'll see you tomorrow!
