Electrifying Memories from Sweden Rock Festival! Embracing Chaos and Rock 'n' Roll

A Soggy Field Transformed into Rock's Mecca

In the late 90s, I had the honor of taking on the role of electrical supervisor at the legendary Sweden Rock Festival in Norje. The festival grounds, once a soggy field and former bay, were a challenge in themselves. Few even knew where the small village of Norje was located, but with my experience from similar events in Gothenburg, I slowly but surely built up a functional electrical area and monitored and serviced the power supply well into the nights.

Chaos at Angel Palace

One evening, I received the unexpected order to head to the Hell Angels' area, Angel Palace. There, I was met with a chaotic scene – gatecrashers had attempted to climb over the fence and landed on the club's motorcycles, resulting in them being forcibly ejected with rough shoves. After calming the crying headbangers, I fixed the lighting on the fence and put up signs instructing people to walk around instead.

A Buffalo Herd of Bikers and Flattened Tents

The next day, I received invaluable help from the Hell Angels to secure the cables, but in the evening, everything went dark, and the cables disappeared among the tents. I stormed after them with a buffalo herd of bikers hot on my heels, while tents were mowed down to flat mats by the frenzied bikers. It was a scene that could have been plucked straight from a rock opera, but for me, it was just another day at the office. By embracing the chaos and utilizing my unique ability to think unconventionally, I managed to navigate through the challenges and ensure that the festival and camper arias could go on. These memories from Sweden Rock Festival serve as a reminder of the importance of adaptability, problem-solving, and an open mind – qualities that have served me well in my career as a project manager.
